MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD PREFECT
CHANGE GROOMED US.
It is with great joy that I write to you students of the mighty school Luzira secondary school on behalf of the student leaders. Seven years has surely been a long journey. Looking back, I remember walking into the great institution for the very first time in March 2018 not knowing how secondary school life would look like. But because of leadership, I am groomed and famous. There are many things that motivated me to come for leadership and this was since senior two in 2019 second term.
LEADERSHIP
“We come nearer to the great when we are great in humility” When we become aware of our humility, we have lost it. “Humility leads to strength and not to weakness. It is the highest form of self respect to admit mistakes and to make amends for them”
A leader must be the change he/she wishes to see in the world, spreading love everywhere you go. Remember, darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that.
Do one thing everyday that scares you and well done is better than well said
As a leader, do not tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.
According to humility, if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. “A great person attracts great people and knows how to hold them together.” “Leadership is the art of giving people a platform for spreading ideas that work.” “A leader is best when people barely know he exists.”
A key to successful leadership is influence not authority. Leadership is all about encouraging those you serve or lead to progress by setting high yet reasonable expectations. Give others challenges that will put them out of their comfort zone. “The future belongs to those who believe in their beauty dreams.”
In leadership, there should be integrity, dedication, communication, self-awareness, gratitude, learning agility, influence and empathy. A leader should have a vision, inspiration, critical thinking, open-minded and creativity.
A school without a leader, teachers will have to take on many other roles that distract their focus from their daily classroom routines. Furthermore, I believe that a successful school needs a principal to oversee the school culture, provide instructional leadership, and exemplify an understanding of state standards.
Perhaps the most important task of the school leader is to ensure that students or pupils receive teaching of the highest possible quality.
As a leader in school, one should try to base decisions and discussions on what is right rather than who is right. Encouraging brain storming and creativity. Always provide feedback and support for new ideas and avoid penalizing for mistakes made for the sake of experimentation.
Student leadership is a student in the position to influence, motivate and guide others towards achievement of a goal. The student must be in an elected or appointed position of leadership and serve for a minimum of one academic year as Luzira Secondary School does every year at the center of excellence.
