The committee, comprising of Old Budonians, aimed at sharing their knowledge and experiences and therefore motivate our students to strive for the best.

The committee comprised of Farouk Ssewankambo (Club president), Susan Muhoza (Vice president), Dr. Amos Kasule, Helen Nanteza Kawesa, Eisah Mayanja, Mr. Ssansa Mugenyi, Catherine Nakirijja,Andrew K Ibona and Mephibosceth Luwalira.

Upon arrival, the committee was warmly welcomed by the school administration and students. Dr. Amos Kasule, who was the first guest speaker to address the students, acknowledged and applauded their smartness and cleanliness. He shared words of wisdom and inspiration that were based on the theme,” EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE.” He urged the students of Luzira Secondary School to try to discover who they are in order to relate well with others since one cannot relate with others well minus first establishing who they are themselves. He said that after one has established who they are, then they should establish who the other people are in order to deal with their and others’ emotions.

He called upon the students to be intentional to where they place themselves, remain focused on academics and stay resilient. He asserted,

“It is remarkable how much you have to know before you realise how little you know.” This was a wake-up call and a challenge for all that listened! He also called upon the students to take advantage of the good relationships with the teachers, improve themselves and ‘kindle the fire in their minds’. He further guided the learners to stand against certain pleasures and be calm amidst calamity.

Ms. Nanteza Helen Kawesa also briefed the students on how to improve self-esteem. She urged them to aspire to be at the front all the time. She further called upon them to stop comparing themselves to others but instead practice positive self-talk. Students were also reminded to always set realistic goals and surround themselves with positive people. Helen informed the students that the best way to succeed in life is to face one’s fears and always concentrate on things that one is good at. She reminded them that the reason why most young people make mistakes in life is due to the fact that they are naive. On this, she stressed that they should know when to say ‘NO’ to certain proposals.

The students were captivated by the motivational words from the speakers. Some of them could not hide their excitement after the session and one remarked,

“The visit was a game-changer for us,” “It has inspired me to work harder and believe in myself.”

Asked about the impact of the talk, Tabitha Nakayenze, the Head Prefect stressed, “Students were really inspired to the extent that they did not want the speaker to stop.” She also remarked,

“It was a very interactive and beneficial session that one can always allude to in various situations and relationships with people.”

We also sought the opinion of our beloved Headteacher and team leader ,Peter Hormisdas Ssenyimba about the committee’s visit to our school. Being a Budonian, he stressed the importance of having such formations.

“I really wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the Old Budonians’ Club Executive Committee for visiting our school,” he said, “they’ve always looked for each one of us as Old Budonians and I can’t stress enough the importance of doing that, we look forward to continuing this collaboration between the Old Budonians and Luzira SS as we continue to inspire the young ones.”

The Club president, Farouk Ssewankambo, pledged continuous collaboration aimed at shaping Luzira SS students towards a good future.

The Old Budonians’ Club Executive Committee’s visit left a lasting impact on the students, reminding them that they have the potential to succeed.
